Ok, this is for a school project, and we have to make a top 20 list about the most influential people that lived before 1500. I'm not asking for you to do my homework; I just want to know what other people think, and maybe it could lead me to a final order. This is the order of the people I chose so far:

1) Jesus of Nazareth – Europe – Inspired Christianity

2) Mohammad ibn ‘Abdullāh – Middle East – Inspired the Islam religion

3) Abraham – Middle East – Founding patriarch of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam

4) Gautama Buddha – Asia – Founded Buddhism

5) Moses – Middle East – Released the Jewish people from slavery, led them to Israel, and wrote the Torah.

6) Caesar Augustus – Europe – Emperor of the Roman Empire

7) Confucius – Asia – Chinese philosopher

8) Genghis Khan – Asia – Mongol founder and Khagan of the Mongol Empire

9) Aristotle – Europe – Greek philosopher

10) Alexander the Great – Europe – Greek king of Macedon; conquered most of Europe

11) Cyrus the Great – Europe – Founder of the Persian Empire

12) Plato – Europe – Greek philosopher

13) Johann Gutenberg – Europe – Invented the printing press

14) Christopher Columbus – Americas – First European explorer to discover the Americas

15) Archimedes of Syracuse – Europe – Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, and astronomer

16) Leonardo da Vinci – Europe – Italian scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer

17) Pythagoras of Samos – Europe – Greek mathematician and founder of Pythagoreanism

18) William I of England – Europe – Conquered the Anglo-Saxons and became King of England

19) Euclid – Europe – Greek mathematician; wrote Elements; hugely affected geometry

20) Homer – Europe – Wrote the Odyssey, which inspired adventure stories in millennia to come

  1. I would put Abraham at the top, as without him there would be no Judaism, Christianity, or Islam. I would also put Moses above Buddha, because as far as I know, there haven't been any worldwide conflicts over Buddhists specifically because they are Buddhists. I would also move Columbus way up the list, as many wars would have turned out differently if there was no United States.

  2. Wow what a great list.  What about the builders of the pyramids?

Galileo, Houke ( invented the lens that made telescopes and microscopes possible) and Madam Marie Cure (radiation therapy would be nothing with out her)  No artists on your list?

Good luck your list is really good.  To bad your instructor limited it to 20. and 1500.
