What do you think the possibility is of Gustav strengthening back into a Cat 4 hurricane?

I live in Louisiana (Baton Rouge), and am totally ready for the storm (well the power outage, mostly), was just curious of what everyone thought as far as if it will strengthen to a Cat 4 again before it hits the coast.

I've read some sources saying that it will, but I can't seem to find more than 1 or 2 websites that say so.

I live in Houma,Lousiana and I'm currently watching CNN news right now.They keep saying that it's suppose to make landfall is a Category 2,which I'm really hoping for.

I guess you know by now, the worst is over for you. We are getting it hard right now in central Louisiana.  We are out of power and i am using a generator. The winds are high. It is 10:30 here in Jena, La.

Based on what I am seeing/ reading I would say that the chances of this are low (thought not impossible).

There is some moderate shear (upper level winds) that will lesses the ability of intensification.

In addition, the storm will be moving into colder waters shortly which will help lessen the possability of significant intensification prior to landfall.  The eye wall is much less defined than it was yesterday and the latest model I saw showed about a 10-15kt intensification possible before landfall.

So, that being said, a cat 3 storm is still very powerful.  In addition, more of the models now are showing the storm to slow down significantly after landfall and there could be a significant amount of rain over the next several days, very similar to what Florida experienced with Fay last week.

The National Hurricane Center, which is what you should rely on, says that it is likely that Gustav will reinstensify into a category 4 storm later today.

it will need some really warm temperatures to do so. It could happen that is a possibility the Gulf has some of the warmest waters.
