    vertical launch rocket propelled ...weirdo... equipped with unguided rockets, that should then disassemble in the air, and land the rocket engine and the pilot on separate parachutes.

    kinda scary.


  2. I think it would be the Focke-Wulf Triebflügeljäger.

    That means, roughly, "powered wing fighter". It was a design for verical takeoff for defense of facilities. It was to use small jets on the ends of rotors to spin the rotors and lift the aircraft, like a helicopter. It would then transition to horizontal flight. Only wind tunnel testing was completed before allied forces reached the test sites, so it was never built. Please see this link for more information and pictures:
