I was picking my horse's hooves and noticed that there's this white thing (it kinda looks like a little powdery white ball) in his front hoof. Its by his frog and when i touched it with the pick, white powder came off it.there's no smell and he doesn't show sensitivity or lameness,no symptoms of thrush.im just not sure what it could be.the farrier is coming this week but i want to hear some of your thoughts until then.what do u think?thanks in advance!

  1. do you think its even coming from your horse's foot?

maybe its something from its environment, or do you put lime in your stalls?

that could be it, but you really need to put shavings over the lime if thats what your using, plain lime can kill.

  2. Sounds almost like white line disease .....let us all know when you find out.

  3. That is really weird. I have no clue. sry

you should prob wait for your farriar.

  4. very strange.  save it to show your farrier.  in the meantime i would wash underneath the hooves with hibi-scrub ( a medical washing agent mixed with water).  then use an anti-septic spray. so at least the hooves will be clean and you will then be able to see if it happens again.

have you checked your field and stable for anything your horse might have stood on.

    thank heaven for our farriers.
