Some say it was possible internal bleeding. Some say it was the crack in his foot. Some say it was not having the steroid shot. Some say it was the heat. What is the most likely explanation for his problems today?

  1. for you people that think the heat caused Big Brown to fail, did Da Toro run with an A/C attached to him? horse way over hyped and a media darling, if Secratariat had been running Big Brown would of been a has been. by the wat DaToro,s time was 5.65 sec slower than Secratariats World record for 1 1/2 mi track.

  2. the hoof had nothing to do with it.  he was uncontrollable in the early traffic.  he was off steroids.  he was out of gas half way through the back strectch. he just wasn't ready for this race.

  3. id put it down to a combination of things........ hoof problems, fatigue ( he's had a lot of racing in the last 10 or so weeks) i think he was a tired horse who should be put in the spelling paddock to recuperate!

  4. I tink the hoof

  5. i think he was hurting.....whether from internal problems or the hoof i couldnt tell u...even the jockey had no idea...

  6. Well in this case, it could be many things.

I honestly think it was the heat. I mean yeah, I bet the hoof did play a big roll in it, but if it was cooler out and Brownie maybe had the outside post - he would have won.

I don't think it was his breeding at all. You've seen that horse excel in all his previous races, he sure as heck could have done it in that race. He just wasn't ready.

If his hoof was perfectly normal and the temperature was from 60-70 and he had an outside post... no doubt in my mind he would have won that race. That horse was un-stoppable.

I sure hope they don't retire him after this.

  7. His jockey choked and pulled up so that he wouldn't look bad.  That way he could say "I was protecting the horse" even though they haven't found anything wrong with Big Brown, except that he's not as fast as Rick Dutrow's mouth.

  8. In my opinion, I don't think it was his foot. He seemed to relaxed. Horses are known to bleed, lungs for example.  In that case he may be in need of lasiks a drug to stop and to prevent in the future. Many horses run on lasiks. Everyone is going to assume his foot, but I saw no favoring or limping at all. Casino Drive obviously had a problem because he kept it off the ground.  Big Brown might have been too hot or just plan ole stubborn.  Remember the horse calls the shots.  The jockey did the right thing.  I just hope the do gooders (PETA) don't start assuming c**p again. Those race horses are treated like gold.  Take Note:  We haven't seen the last of Big Brown, look for him in the Travers and the Breeder's Cup. I trust the owners and the trainer will do the right thing regarding care.

  9. he got beaten, badly-that is why they have the race, however, lets be honest, think about all the money people lost, at 3-10??Who do you think 'won' all that money?  Are you suspicious, not even a little bit?

  10. I would say the heat. it was up too 100 today

  11. Breeding.  He didn't have as good of distance breeding as many of the other horses.  I think his missing a few days of training also played into it.

It wasn't bleeding.  Big Brown had Lasix for all 3 Triple Crown races.

  12. They were saying the most likely story is the internal bleeding one. He was kicked by another horse and they said when a thoro bred (i dont know how to spell it) loses that bad that is the first thing they suspect. Also they said that big brown probably didnt feel it that bad because all of the adrenaline

  13. The jockey was paid off for the Horse to tank. Imagine how many people put money into Big Brown winning the Triple Crown, if the horse won, then all that money would have to be paid out. Now with the horse losing the bookies made a killing for the horse not to win.

  14. the cracked hoof

  15. His stride looked off to me....looked unnatural, especially at the end, I think his hoof was the cause of his poor showing.
