My thought is when it says RSVP with a number that you call and say that you are coming. If you are not then you dont call.

I read though that RSVP is only when you cant make it.

What do you think??

what does RSVP mean?

  1. RSVP is the acronym for "répondez s'il vous plaît" meaning "answer please".

So basically it means that the person wants you to get back to them sooner rather than later.

  2. You respond either way.  Some invitations specifically say RSVP 'regrets only'.

  3. If you're coming, definitely RSVP. If you're not coming, it's your choice. Most people assume you're not coming if you don't RSVP, but some would prefer that you call and tell them so they don't have to guess.

  4. You are supposed to call whether you are going to the event or not. This allows for seating arrangements and the ordering of food if any is going to be given.

    RSVP means to please respond.

  5. It means you respond either way.  It's an abbreviation for "Répondez s'il vous plaît", French for "Reply, please."

It would certainly be very rude to only call if you can't make it.  People use RSVP to figure out how many people will be in attendance.  The polite thing to do is to call whether you're accepting or declining the invitation.

  6. RSVP to me means you call if you are going to come and you do nothing if you're not.  Usually, if the person wants you to call if you're not coming, then it would say something like "RSVP with regrets."

  7. To RSVP means that you are letting that person know that you either are or are not coming. It's just so that they know who is and isn't coming. Call anyway.
