I'm 5'7 and 126lbs, i ride a Oldenburg/Throughbred at the moment, but I'm looking for my own horse, and i have been riding for 10yrs. I have owned horses before and my mom rides. I can spend up to 6000, and i ride english...hunter/jumper but i also like to trail ride. What size, age and breed do you think would be good? I live in British Columbia btw. Horse adds would be great

  1. any warmblood (like a thoroughbred, mixed with a draft) they are hefty, and strong, but more genlte and goodmined... and very very athletic..quarter horses are wonderful for trails but most hunter jumpers are warmbloods or thoroughbred mixes

maybe go for a paint! pretty and dependable

make sure the horse you get isn't too much for you!

  3. What I would think that would make an ideal horse for you is an arabian, a calm layed back arabian! They are the perfect size, age it really depeneds these days!

The place i always look is the website: www.dreamhorse.com.

it is a great website, i wish you luck!

  4. Oh, you are in the perfect area to snatch up a young Canadian Warmblood -- tons of great breeders are in your area!  I almost imported one of these a few years ago, IMHO it is a nicely bred horse.

  5. buy a horse thats over the age of 7,but under the age of 12.horses this age usually kno wat theyre doing and how to act but are young enough 2 b spirited and fun.i hope u find wat ur looking for, good luck!

  6. I think for your height you'd be best on something no smaller that 15.2 (158cm), around the 16hh would be a good height. Do you feel comfortable on the horse you currently ride?

I'd be looking first of all for a quiet horse. No younger than 6 years. Preferable with the first stage of lateral movement established, leg yield/shoulder in. With three nice paces. And jumping established.

For your English/hunter jumping you'll want a horse that appears elegant (not too short looking in the legs), to have a nice shoulder angle of jumping (greater than 90deg would be good), a nice fine head nicely set on an elegant neck. Strong hocks would be essential, good feet and most importantly a kind calm eye.

Good luck....I'm sure he's out there waiting for you.

  7. I would start checking on online sales sites.

You can search through prices, breeds, location, and many other specifications. Also, talk to vets and farriers. Vets and farriers know a lot of horses in your area. Your local tack shop should have some horse for sale/lease adds as well.

  8. It depends, would rather have like a project? Like that you have too train or just a trained horse that you can just ride for fun?
