  1. For many people with short commutes to work an electric car would be perfect.  We had e-cars here in California but General Motors had them crushed.  If we can ever escape the grip of the big oil companies we can start to make progress in alternative fuels.  In Cali.  90% of electricity comes from natural gas, nuclear and other methods so the usual arguments about straining the power grid dont apply.

Most people would charge at night when demand is low anyways.  Go E-car!!

  2. Diesel engines get the best mileage.

  3. I saw a program on television about cars that run on electricity.  I think it would be cool if we could do this, without making our electric bills go out the roof.  I was also wondering about steam.  What if our cars could run on water?  Like steam boats, steam trains, etc.  I don't know enough about it... but if they could run on steam we would really be saving a lot of pollution and conserving other sources of fuel.

  4. At this point, it is conventional fuel sources!

Several years ago I converted one of my cars to run on LPG

Which cost roughly 1/3 of gas at the time, and I could only afford this because I bought a second hand kit from one of my co-workers for $40.00, and I could do the installation myself!

If I were to pay for a new installation, not only would I not be able to afford it, but unless I were able to keep the car on the road for the next 20 years, I would never see a point in time that could justify it's cost!

I believe  that I may have been the only person to convert an Austin Maestro to run on LP Gas.

It was fun and interesting during that period of time(2 and a half years) but I did reduce my running costs dramatically!

While LPG is still roughly 30% the price of gasoline or diesel (at least in the UK) the fact is that no matter what you do will only be a temporary measure because as more people convert, the price will increase!

This was proven when people changed from using gasoline powered cars to diesel in order to save some money on their running costs.

The next thing that happened was that diesel prices began to soar! It now costs us more for diesel than normal gasoline!

Since it costs less to produce diesel fuel than to 'crack' the fuel to gasoline, this only tells me that we are all being 'ripped off' again!

No matter what your decision is, you have to look at the original investment and how many years that initial cost will pay for itself!

If for example, you spend $1,000 and that will save you $100

per year, you will only be able to see a real savings after 10 years! This is a basic concept which most people seem to be incapable  to comprehend.

Too many people today will be more than willing to throw their money away because they have the mis-guided belief that they can have an effect on our planet's natural cycle.

  5. electric gives most miles/$£

electric motors are simply much more suited to traction than any other motor, max torque from 0rpm from cold.

You can generate your own fuel for free from solar/wind/hydro micro-generator. Even if you buy from the grid you can charge overnight & sell unwanted fuel back at times of high demand. Modern batteries have a range of 200miles, so if you only do 20 miles you have a lot of energy to sell.

plus electric is much more relaxing to drive, smooth, quiet, smell free; very low running costs low maintenance etc.

For a Slow Ugly Vehicles the best fuel is sugar - put a kilo in every tank. People don't drive SUVs to save money but to show off how much they can waste.

  6. the only reason we use gasoline powered cars is because its cheaper than the many other fuels that could be & have been used in the last 100 years.

so considering only price there is no cheaper fuel than gasoline/diesel.

  7. Well hydrogen systems seem to be the way to go and the answer to the question! There are modified units available now that can increase your gas milage. When you add an electric charge to H20(water) it produces gas bubbles in a contained compressed tank. It's called "Browns Gas" google it. This system creates the hydrogen and imediatley burns it. So there is no need to store compressed Hydrogen. Which is very dangerous to store. And the very reason that no one wants to produce hydrogen fueling stations. You see Gov. and self intrest groups (Big Oil) Need to sell you a consumable resource.

  8. Don't drive them.
