Question:

What do you tip your groomer?

I have a Husky and a Bernese Mtn dog. She is charging $45 to groom each dog. Includes nail trimming, ear cleaning, blowing out their coat, sanitary cuts etc....

She owns her own shop. I think she is reasonable with her fees but this is the first time I have taken my dogs to her. I do know her (she has Huskies, so I know my girl will look like a show pup:)

What is the customary tip for a groomer? What do you usually pay?

  1. I tip between 5 and 10 dollars depending on what I have done

  2.   The groomer gets a hug & a kiss from my wife, sometimes more.

BTW, I groom my own dogs, the tips make it worth it.

  3. I usually tip ~ 20%, except for for on work for my ancient pug who is flat out obnoxious for the groomer. I tip 100% for him - whatever the job cost, I double it. He really is awful for the groomer. Great for everyone else, but he *hates* having his feet and wrinkles done.

  4. If you've found someone who can do an even ADEQUATE job grooming both of these breeds for $45 each you are very lucky!

For an adequate job I would tip 10% .. or about $5 each.  For an exceptional job I would tip 20% or about $10 each.

To groom at the self wash it runs me $35 just to wash 2 dogs with a halfway quick blow-out (I finish grooming at home) and I tip them $5 to clean up the hairy mess I leave.

  5. I tip my groomer 20% whether it's a groomer who comes to the house or the owner of a grooming shoppe.  I want my groomers to be very happy people and have motivation for taking good care of my dogs.  If it's a mobile groomer, they also get drinks and cookies too!

  6. I tip my groomer $5 but she comes to my house to bathe/trim my dog.  She uses my sink/water and brings the rest.
