What do you treat water with and where do you buy it (as when camping or in a water shortage or disaster)?

Camping stores have many options.  There are at least two chemical treatments.  Iodine and another one that does not make you water taste like iodine.  There are also filters designed for treating impure water.  Plus if you don't have access to any of those you can boil it for ten minutes.

go to the salvation army they have stuff the purifies the water they`ll  even have like water packets and stuff my mom got a bunch but i dont know what their called just go and ask for water purifying stuff they`ll show you and tell you how to use it ok!

Iodine can be used in several different forms for water purification: as tablets, liquid, or crystals. Iodine tablets are available at most camping supply stores, and they are very effective at killing anything in the water, but they have a short shelf life even when new, and they rapidly lose potency after opening. The tablets also give the water a nasty taste and can be harmful if used over an extended time period.

We use a water filter pump when we go backpacking, and have never had a problem.  It's also a great thing to have in an earthquake supply kit.
