  1. Telnet is the precursor to the web browser. You use it to connect to very simple text based services such as library databases or message boards.

    There are no graphics of fancy widgets to deal with so it is very fast, and instead of connecting to sites through the internet you could often dial directly into them using a phone number, making them very private.


  2. Why do you ask this in a travel section?

    But i still use Telnet to connect to things like routers, switches and other networking devices.

    Useful little tool.
