What do you use for your dog's hair?

Don't freak out one me, this does have to do with dogs, well mine and yours I guess. We bought a vacuum at about February (now it's August) and the brush won't turn. We bought a Bissell Pet Hair vacuum because our American Staffordshire Terrier Sheds a lot (well, average until you pet her).

So, my question is, what vacuum do you use and what are the pros and cons of it? Also, how long, roughly, have you had it.

Thanks!! :-)

  1. I have a cat who sheds TONS, he is a Maine Coon and it very long haired. I cannot possibly tell you how much he sheds and i have a dog that is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that sheds about normal, no higher and i use just a regular vacuum...no special one and it does the job. But since it's already 3 years old i'm looking into getting one of the Pet Hair vacuums. But my question is...Do they really work? Well, i don't know.

  2. I have a friend who uses a dry vac to get loose hair off her Irish setter.

  3. I own five Australian Shepherds, a constantly shedding, long haired breed and have found the Dyson vacuum is unparalleled at keeping hair under control! I vacuum daily!

  4. A dyson is beyond my budget. I suppose if I stopped buying cheap vacuums and saved up for one, it would be worth it. I'm sure I wouldn't have to replace it yearly.

My vacuum is a Bissell bagless vacuum. It does a decent job, but never hair free. I need to vacuum everyday, and usually do it every other day at least (I can tolerate a mess). It performs well compared to other vacuums that I've bought in the same price range. I wish it had bags, I don't like having to clean the whole d**n thing out, but by cleaning it out well on a frequent basis..it's lasted longer.

I think a more serious machine would be better, but with 2 dogs I know I'll never be hair free anyways and it's always going to take frequent work to be satisfied with the results.

(I've had my current vaccuum for about 2 years now)

  5. I didn't answer this originally because I don't have a great answer :D

We don't have any carpet in our house...just hardwoods and tile. We do have Lacie who sheds like there is no tomorrow and Loki who is a moderate shedder. I use a canister vacuum with a floor attachment (I hate sweeping). It's a really old school Eureka, but it works amazingly! Then I can just mop and the job is done. I've had a few Eureka vacs, and they seem to work really well. You might want to check out something like Consumer Reports on vacuums. That's what I tend to do before I purchase :) Good Luck!

  6. I've had a Pet Dyson for about a year and love it! It is bagless go you can clean it really well. You have to take the brush off and clean it, but it is really easy to do. I wouldn't change anything about it. I have 3 dogs (a shedding black lab, a husky and a shepherd) as well as ferrets and a cat. I didn't know that my carpet could get that clean before I got this vacuum.
