  1. vinegar ice cubes

  2. Garbage Disposal Cleaning

When going about your regular kitchen cleaning, you don't want to overlook your garbage disposal. Especially if food is scraped into the disposal when regularly washing the dishes. To clean grease and leftover food from your disposal and sharpen the blades at the same time, sprinkle liberally with baking soda and pour white vinegar over until it bubbles. Let set ten minutes. Rinse with hot water. Put two or three ice cubes in the disposal and grind. Rinse again with hot water. Now your disposal is clean and odor free...

  3. An expensive way is to squeeze a lemon, then chop the skins into small pieces and put them down the disposal followed by ice cubes.

  4. I pour in a liberal amount of baking soda and follow it with a healthy squirt of Dawn dishwashing liquid.

I have a short handled toilet brush that I use only for the disposer.  I'll run a little water ( not much ) just to moisten the soda and soap mixture a bit and then SCRUB well with the brush to include the underneath of the rubber gasket in the drain.  Turn the water on full blast and let the disposer run for about 10 seconds.

Voila!  A clean and sweet smelling disposer.

  5. Ice cubes help to "sharpen" the blades is what I was always told.

To keep it fresh smelling you can grind up citrus fruit or its peels (lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit).

To help clean it pour baking soda in the drain, let it sit for a little while, then slowly add vinegar.  You get the volcano effect...it fizzes up.  Let it fizz a while, then add a little more vinegar.  Keep doing that & letting it do its thing in between.

  6. Baking soda followed by vinegar. Let fizz. Wash down with hot water.

  7. Several ways: A. pour baking soda into it and let sit for a few hours to absorb odors. B. Turn it on, and dump ice cubes into it to free up debris and flush down the drain.

  8. pour ice with running water while the disposal is running. not only will the ice sharpen the blades but will scour any food particles away that are stuck to the unit.

  9. CLEANING THE GARBAGE DIPOSAL

Method 1: Pour one half cup of baking soda down the kitchen drain. Carefully pour one cup of white vinegar down the drain on top of the baking soda. Place the drain stopper in the sink to close off the drain. If you have a double sink, you should do this for both of them. The mixture will fizz and make a bit of noise or fizzing sounds. Allow this to work its magic for a few minutes while you boil some hot water. Use a full teakettle or medium size pot of water. Once this has boiled, pour it down the drain.

Method 2: Using a clean container, mix a gallon of water with one tablespoon of liquid chlorine bleach. Carefully and slowly, pour the solution down the drain and allow it to sit for several minutes. Flush the drain thoroughly with cold water for several minutes.

    FRESHENING THE GARBAGE DISPOSAL

Maintaining a clean garbage disposal using one of the above methods will help to keep it smelling fresh and odor free. Additionally, you can encourage this by grinding ice cubes in the garbage disposal to clean the cutting blades. Simply place several cubes in the drain and grind.

If you want to add a little bit of scent to the area, you can add rinds from any of the citrus fruits in the drain with the ice cubes. The citrus fruits include oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits.

  10. Baking Soda followed by vinegar sounds about right :)

...when I first read the question I thought you were just being witty.
