What do you use to keep ants away? I know that peppermint oil works but what else?

Here in Australia we use the oil of any citrus - lemon is first, then orange, grapefruit. We also use borax to stop them coming into the house. Eucalyptus oil might work in other countries, but not here. We never use commercial preparations, as they mostly contain poisons.

I use bay leaves. I buy them in the spice section at the grocery store. I have them in my cabinets (especially under the sinks since ants are attracted to water) and hidden in corners, drawers, closets, etc all around my house. They work really well & aren't toxic.

I still use ant spray outside, though....around the windows & doors, on the patio & in the garage. If the ants get past that  & into the house the bayleaves will get em! lol
