I will be in Barcelona for three weeks in June and July. What do the local's in Barcelona wear? Does any one have suggestions as to where to go and what to do?

I am hoping to find some out of the way places, that are not crowded with tourists. Any advice would be great. Thank you.

  1. clothes.  Really, they wear clothes.  Much like Americans.

I noticed in Barcelona, that they were a bit less conservative than in other parts of Spain.  Girls wore flipflops for everyday footwear.  Lots more skin, but you can go conservative and still be fine.  Much, I think, depends on what walk of life you are going to be living in.

Here's a site that might help.

Search around.  The big branch in Barcelona is at Plaça Catalunya, if you want to actually shop there.  As you can see, it's a bit pricey.  (always has been, but with the dollar low against the Euro, it's especially so).

For places not crowded with tourists, just go a block off the Ramblas...voilà!  No tourists! Seriously, everyone seems to stay right there.  Also, check out the little bars and restaurants in the Boqueria.  The tourists don't frecuent them as much as the locals do.  Or just shop at the stalls, and bring the food with you, if you don't feel like braving the restaurant, thing.

  2. I have noticed that most people in Barcelona are wearing clothes.  They tend to be more stylishly dressed than people in other parts of Spain.  They have high street chain stores, that you may recognise - H&M, Zara, Top Shop, as well as local chains and designer boutiques.  They make an effort to dress well when they go out at night.

As Barcelona is the top tourist destination on the peninsula, you may struggle to find some "non touristy" places, unless you go out to the residential areas.   If you want to avoid the tourist hotspots, some places to miss are La Sagrada Familia, Las Ramblas, the Port area, Barri Gottic, Park Guell, Plaza Cataluna and any of the Gaudi Buildings.

    Enjoy your stay in Barcelona.
