What do you wear to ski??

Okay, so I'm going skiing in Vermont next month, and I've never been. What do I wear? I know you wear a puffy coat and some puffy pants... but where should I buy this stuff? What's in style? (I haven't worn snow gear since I was 9 - circa 1992)...

Also, keep in mind I've never been skiing and don't really want to spend a ton, because I don't know if I will like it.

Thanks!!

  2. Look in the resolved questions. This gets asked a bunch and there are lots of good answers.

  3. Check with the resort you are going to. Since you are just trying it out, most resorts rent ski equipment for a nominal fee, including ski bibs, goggles, skis, boots, etc.  They will even help you choose the size skis you need. You will want to buy yourself a pair of long underwear to wear under your clothing and a really good pair of ski gloves. They have extra leather in the palm of the hands for your grip. Also, have a good fitting hat and a warm scarf! If you have a local ski or sports shop in your area, you can get them there. I got mine at Overtons.  Also, since this is your first time skiing, you might want to sign up for quick lessons before you go up on the slopes. Most resorts do this on the bunny slope (a smaller area that is relatively flat with just some hilliness).  I know when we take our kids from our youth group (9th-12th graders), we require this session for first time skiers. It doesn't take long and it runs less than $20.00.  Then you will know if you enjoy it and when you get back, if you did, you can invest in your own equipment! I'm sure you'll have a great time! Enjoy the slopes!

  4. long underwear several long sleeve shirts a hat or beanie and glasses or googles   its good to have some wool socks. Its nice to have some boots for after too. You can get all of these at an Academy. And make sure to have a good aditude. Good luck and have fun

  5. nothing! thats how you get the guys

  6. go to somewhere like Ross, Marshalls, etc etc.   you might still be able to find cheap ski gear.

You most likely could get a jacket for about $70 and some pants for about $30.  Its worth it to keep warm.

  7. Well on my ski outfit let me tell you what I wear and how much it cost.

note: try to get things that'll dry fast! your sweat can cause you to become wet, the water will cool you down, you'll become freezing! use double layer socks. First nylong then smartwool socks. use wool socks because cotton would soak up like a sponge! (2 socks)

first layer: a tight nylon long sleeve shirt- $15(under Armour)

A tight polyester  pants- $20 (alpine trail)

    second: A soccer/stretchy jersey-$10-20

                   Athletics pants- %10 at modells!

Third-Columbia water-proof jacket, double layered- $87 (d**k's sporting goods Roosevelt field mall)

snow pants (vikings)- $80. (bolton valley ski resort)

The point of the first layer is to heat you up and make body heat, the second is too trap the heat and use it to keep you warm The third is to trap the air to heat up to keep you warm and the water proof is to keep you dry. Good gloves can be bought at

    Dickssportinggoods.com

    Sierratradingpost.com

180s.com (i have their glove, they have long cuffs so you can tuck your jacket in them to keep your hands dry)

    Dakine.com (cool gloves)

  8. I am doing the same, except for going to Colorado. I just went to ***** and got my Colombia coat for $100. It's my first time too, so I'm clueless about everything.
