I have never been skiing before and know that I need a ski jacket, salopettes, thermal underwear goggles etc, and this may be a silly question but do you wear thermal underwear then eg. jeans and a top and then your ski jacket and trousers?

  1. Do not wear jeans. The thermals and a pair of ski pants that are water repellent with elastic cuffs over the boots are all that are needed on your legs. A good pair of ski socks and your foot are all that should be in your boot.  Several thin layers on your upper body a tee shirt, a turtle neck shirt, and a jacket should be OK till about 6 below C, add a sweater if you are colder and uncomfortable.  If you add a belt to your jacket, you will get warmer and could forget the sweater, cover you ears, to help regulate your temperature, drink water.

  2. a couple of layers on top, for example, base thermal layer, thin micro fleece, long johns or leggings and always really decent ski socks with no ripples, that would cause blisters.

    have a good trip

  3. that depends on how good your outer clothing ....... i only wear thermal underwear under mine..... but if i were you the first time you go wear as much as you can then if you get too hot you can go to the changing rooms or the toilets and take off a layer or two until you have found what you need, then the next day you will know what to have on under :)

  4. It depends where u r skiing. If it is going to be below freezing and you are not tolerant of the cold I would not wear jeans b/c they would be hard to ski in. You can wear a pair of shorts that go down mid-calf and put hand warmers in your pockets. Then wear high warm socks (maybe two pairs if it is below zero.) Use toe warmers for in your boots. You feet will get FREEZING anyways sometimes. Bring spares and change them out during lunch if you can. On top wear a long john shirt (hot chilis and under armour are great), a fleece, and a warm, wind breaking jacket. Invest in a really go jacket with a powder skirt. A good jacket is absolutely necessary. You can wear a turtle on your neck to keep it warm or use a face mask. If you have goggles you can stick the edge of the turtle underneath the goggles. Wear a helmet. It keeps your head warm and lots of people do it. It doesn't look nerdy or stupid. It is a lot safer if you are going to ski or snowboard hard. It beats paying medical bills.

  5. You will be fine in salopettes and thick knee socks, no need for jeans, trust me. Under your coat, thin layers like a T-shirt, then sweatshirt will do. Best take a hat and scarf in your pocket / rucksack in case the weather turns really cold, but you probably won't need them when you're warmed up. When your ski-ing all day, you don't really feel the cold, in fact you will probably come back with a nice tan!

  6. what the h**l is wrong with u??

that is the least funny joke i have heard in a long time.

  7. I was just skiing last weekend! Of course you need your ski jacket and ski pants. Underneath your pants, you should wear thermal/microfiber long underwear. That should be enough. Don't wear jeans, tat would be very uncomfortable. Under your ski jacket, wear thermal/microfiber long underwear and a fleece sweater. If it's really cold, find a "gator", which protects your neck and chin from the cold. Definitely wear a hat and goggles, and don't forget the sunscreen! It doesn't matter how cold or cloudy it is, always wear sunscreen. You will burn. Have fun!!!

  8. I'll only add that from my point of view good skiing gloves are very important. I don't really care about goggles, prefer normal sunglasses (plastic). A scarf (skiing variety is perfect) is useful in very windy weather, you can cover most of your face with it. I like to wear earwarmers instead of a hat, and to keep a hat in my pocket just in case. I don't like to wear too much under trousers\jacket. But I prefer to put on extra boy-shorts (wool), so that I don't freeze when I have to sit on lifts :)

  9. I wear thermals, vest tops, a t-shirt, long sleeved t-shirt, a fleece then my jacket.

On the bottom, i wear thermals then salopettes. Don't wear jeans, they are the worst possible thing.

  10. Wear poly thermals top and bottom. The type (thin or thick) will depend on whether your ski pants are lined or not.

Don't wear cotton (Tshirts) as they won't keep the sweat off you and you'll freeze when you are in a lift line.

Do not wear jeans unless you are a skier from Texas.

  11. i wear nerdretardant to keep away nerds like you

dumbass they are called ski pants

  12. thermals

  13. no just long-sleeved thermals, no jeans and shirt unless you want to look good in the lodge but barely anyone takes off their stuff like that. if it's for warmth, go for it, but otherwise, just stick to thermals and youre outerwear. have fun!

  14. Well...I never wear jeans for several reasons. #1 they are cotton and cotton, once wet (from snow or perspiration) has NO insulating qualities. #2 Jeans either have to be rolled up over the cuff of the boot or tucked into the boot. Tucking anything into the boot is a good way to be sure you will be uncomfortable....so my jeans stay safely in my suitcase and come out when I hit the bars after skiing is done.

I normally wear a base layer of wicking underwear, boxer and a T-shirt. My mid-layer are normally synthetic fleece pants and a wicking thermal long-sleeve shirt with a zipper neck. (Sometimes I skip the T-shirt and just wear the zip neck shirt).

My ski pants go over the fleece. I tend to wear non-insulated ski pants. They are a heavy-duty waterproof shell, the fleece pants are what keep me warm. I normally wear a wind blocking fleece jacket and a non-insulated waterproof jacket over that. This allows me to vary my layers through the day if I need to. However, I have many kinds of mid-layers ranging from fleece, to wool, to synthetic fill jackets. This allows me to really vary what I wear and I am not locked into wearing an insulated ski jacket all of the time.

  15. Oh yes   Woolly knickers

  16. Wow! people here really hate jeans...doesn't anyone spring ski? I don't do the shorts thing but love the fact that some do

I wear jeans every chance I can while skiing. Anytime it warms up abit the ski pants get left at home. I even have these great solomon gators for powder skiing in jeans and a snowboarder buttpad for riding wet chairs

But it's an either or situation, no trousers under the skipants...too uncomfortable and restrictive

Only real prob. with blue jeans is no zippered pockets

  17. uhm well i only wore jeans one time because i was unprepared, but just wear thermal underwear, sweatpants, and snowpants and a heavy winter jacket i would also bring a lighter jacket so just in case it isnt too hot/cold. also do not wear normal socks. wear tube socks they protect your feet if you wear normal socks you have a big chance of blisters. and the ski boots are supposed  to be snug ( a little tight) eyewear, wear ski glasses and a winter hat and heavy gloves not canvas gloves
