hi, i have scoliosis brace and it's not the boston brace. I'm actually not sure what it is called but it is taller then the boston brace and gos higher up because my curve is in my upper back not my lower back. Anyways i have had for about six months but it still bugs me when it comes to what to wear. I really like clothes from abercrombie and hollister and american eagle but they are also tight clothes. during the summer its fine because you don't see people as often as you do when you have school everyday but its august and school is coming. please help me.

  2. It sounds like you are wearing a Wilmington Jacket.  I wore a Wilmington and Boston brace as a teen.

Tops...I wore loose baby doll tops in the warm weather. You may be able to go up a size or two, but also check out plus size or maternity clothes (some of the same designers for juniors and misses are designing for maternity and plus).

Pants/shorts...go up a size, wear elastic waists or drawstrings, or you can uses one of those expand a waist button extender things.

American Eagle might be good for you because they have styles in larger sizes.  My high school budget didn't allow for the shops A&F or Hollister.  If you're looking to save money, try Target or JCPenny.  They carry both maternity and plus sizes and summer weight tops should be on sale now. Maternity works very well because only your torso is changing sizes.

Wear a fitted sleeveless undershirt (A-shirt) under the brace (mens come in packages of 3 and are cheaper than womens). Even if you want to wear a baby doll top with skinny straps over the A-shirt, it will look like layers.

When you came back in wipe any skin that was under the brace down with rubbing alcohol to remove the sweaty, grimy feeling (get your mom to do your back); wiped down the inside of the brace; and changed into a fresh undershirt.

Once the weather turns cool.  You can switch to sweaters in a bulky knit or loose fit.  Sweatshirts and hoodies also work well.

  3. I'm not really sure but I am thinking you have a Milwaukee Brace. Does it come up with a ring that sits just above your shoulders? If it does, then yeah that is a Milwaukee Brace and that is what I have. What really works for me to wear over it is graphic t-shirts. I have some from Hollister, A&F, AE, and Aeropostale and they don't cover it completly but they do pretty well and they are pretty cute if you find good ones. You will just need to get a size or two bigger than you would without the brace. Also shirts that have hoods on them work really well to cover up the s***w in the back. In the wintertime, it will be much easier because you can wear sweatshirts and they cover it up REALLY well. Mine really bugs me with clothing to wear over it, too, but it will be over before you know it and it's probably better that you have it so hopefully you don't need surgery. Good luck with your brace, I know what you're going through :-).

    -Hope this helps!-
