Question:

What do your hands say about you?

Mine have scars and freckles from working in the garden too often without gloves. I have callouses on my fingertips from years of strumming the guitar. The blood veins are dark and raised. The nails are in need of a manicure. My knuckles are beginning to show signs of arthritis. But they have felt the fevers of sick children, touched a baby's cheek and have shaken the hands of a couple of Presidents and they are me. How do you feel about your hands?:

  1. They are large and strong in giving a helping hand . . .and can be gentle and loving with the right people.  They've cooked, cleaned, done laundry, held babies, wiped noses, played baseball, made snowballs, and somehow gotten more wrinkles over time . . .but hey, they still work and can do all the above jobs and more . . .good question !

  2. My hands say that I have worked hard all of my life.  They are scarred & weathered.  My arms have noticable scars from injuries & working around animals.

  3.     I thought You would never ask.................

Physician, heal thyself is a proverb found in Luke 4:23.

"And He said to them, "No doubt you will quote this proverb to Me, 'Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we heard was done at Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well.'"

The usual interpretation of this passage is, during the Rejection of Jesus, Jesus expected to hear natives of his hometown of Nazareth use this phrase to criticize him.[1]

The moral of the proverb is counsel to attend to one's own defects, rather than criticizing defects in others.[2]

  4. My hands show the signs of a lot of use, but today they look too clean.  I should have done the weeding.  My nails could use a manicure but there's no point during the summer.

  5. She must be older then she looks!

  6. I'm sure not very proud of my hands.  In fact---why am I answering this?.  I try to hide them and here I'm telling all about them. LOL Of course ,since I'll never meet any of the good people on here ,I guess it will be alright.  My hands are rough from years of factory work.  Then in caring for the elderly,I used a lot of chemicals to disinfect things. My time at the casino didn't do damange to my hands so I should have stayed there, in stead of moving back east I guess. My finger nails are some rounded from lung disease.Thin skin and the vein show a great deal.  If I get a light bump on my hands I get a purple spot there. Thsy just look terrible and ole arthritis shows too much also. But at my age I guess it isn't any worse than some others.

  7. A hard worker Big hands they are scared from years of hard work

  8. My hands are smooth and soft with elegantly groomed unbitten nails. I don't need fake nails mine are good. I guess they are a bit too soft now.

My fingers are short and stubby. I don't like them, can never get enough rings on.. I will never be a piano player LOL and they have no scars on them. I do have one small freckle on my right hand.

They have tended to 4 children and 4 grandchildren, changed soooo many dirty nappies (diapers)  cooked cakes, bread, biscuits  (cookies), and meals in the thousands.

Played a guitar, drawn, painted, sewed, knitted, crocheted, weeded, planted and sowed, typed furiously away on Y/A and handled rifles, grenades and M16 machine guns.

They are developing a little arthritis in a few fingers and getting a bit dry but all in all they show a wealth of experience.

  9. I am a hard worker and love the outdoors

  10. What my hands say about me is. "Hey ladddyyyy! Can't you learn to type on that computer with your toes and give us a break?" (no pun intended!)

I'm happy to have both of them! Sometimes one hand doesn't know what the other is doing. (my life story) They aren't as smooth as a few years ago but no spots yet, tanned and veins are more prominent in last couple of years, but they serve me well, popcorn, ice cream, yogurt, etc. I have small hands. Come to think of it, I need a manicure, so I think I'll do that this afternoon! Thanks for the reminder.

  11. Mine are large, and starting to show my age. They are deep grooved and full of dirt/mud/slivers and scars.

The tell me I really do enjoy life

  12. 1. I didn't use sunscreen often enough (freckles)

    2. I have small scars from burns by molten lead (used to work in a bait manufacturing shop)

    3. There's a genetic factor of arthritis. (knuckles are getting larger, etc)

    4. Loving hands have comforted children, held babies, cleaned houses, washed dishes, played with kittens, punched punching bags at the gym, picked blackberries and folded in prayer often...

  13. My hands tell nothing of the things that they have done in the past - good and bad.

They don't even tell you if I am married.

They say they belong to a 51 year old woman - and anything else they tell you would be a shadow of the truth.

    They have been faithful servants.

    Protectors.

    Wage earners.

    Entertainers.

    Instruments of pain and pleasure.

But best of all - communicators.

Great question and your own description is excellent ............

I speak only for myself when I say - please - more like it!

    love life

    and friends

  14. My hands say I have been in the wars (I have a bent useless ring finger through an accident). Also they say I am old!

  15. That  have worked hard all my life with the sick.

Overcome life threatening illness in my youth with the help of

God, and devoted  my life to working with sick people which I did with a good heart, and tried

    to be cheery at work.

  16. I don't like the looks of the top of my hands. The last few years, the

skin has thinned and the veins stand out more and are really blue. Is

this where they get the term being "blue blood"? My fingers are having

ligament trouble now. One is curving inward. It is arthritus I assume.

It is my index finger. My index finger on the right hand, is also starting

to turn more inward also. My ring finger has "trigger finger" and it will

stick in the curled position sometimes. It was a chronic thing and it

hurt. But it's gotten better this last year. So I changed my mind about

having surgery. I've been taking calcium and my nails are looking much

better. They are smoothe and shiny and not dull with ridges. They also

do not peel like they used to. Now if my bones are also thickening

and being more dense. Having brittle bones in ones older years is something we all need to avoid.

  17. I have a large scar on my right hand from where I protected my face from being bottled so that shows that I have been to a pub in the UK lol

  18. Our hands and our heart represent one of our senses and is our feeling sense.

Just as our heart our hands have soothed pain, caressed our loved ones, have reached out, and have been the tool of our survival.

I have a writing about hands. It's long but I saved it in my collection.

Hope you don't mind if I share it with you.

    These Hands

An old man, probably some ninety plus years, sat feebly

    on the park bench.

He didn't move, just sat with his head down staring at his

    hands.

When I sat down beside him he didn't acknowledge my

presence and the longer I sat I wondered if he was ok.

Finally, not really wanting to disturb him but wanting to

check on him at the same time, I asked him if he was ok.

He raised his head and looked at me and smiled. Yes,

I'm fine, thank you for asking, he said in a clear strong

    voice.

I didn't mean to disturb you sir, but you were just sitting

here staring at your hands and I wanted to make sure

you were ok, I explained to him.

Have you ever looked at your hands, he asked.  I mean

    really looked at your hands?

I slowly opened my hands and stared down at them. I

turned them over, palms up and then palms down.

No, I guess I had never really looked at my hands as

I tried to figure out the point he was making.

Then he smiled and related this story:

Stop and think for a moment about the hands you have,

how they have served you well throughout your years.

These hands, though wrinkled, shriveled and  weak have

been the tools I have used all my life to reach out and

    grab and embrace life.

They braced and caught my fall when as a toddler I

    crashed upon the floor.

They put food in my mouth and  clothes on my back.

As a child my mother taught me to fold them in prayer.

They tied my shoes and pulled on my boots.

They dried the tears of my children and caressed the love

    of my life.

They have been dirty, scraped and raw, swollen and bent.

They were uneasy and clumsy when I tried to hold my

    newborn son.

Decorated with my wedding band they showed the world

that I was married and loved someone special.

They trembled and shook when I buried my parents and

spouse and walked my daughter down the aisle.

Yet, they were strong and sure when I lifted a plow off

    of my best friend's foot.

They have held children, consoled neighbors, and shook in

fists of anger when I didn't understand.

They have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed

and cleansed the rest of my body.

They have been sticky and wet, bent and broken, dried

    and raw.

And to this day when not much of anything else of me

works real well these hands hold me up, lay me down, and

again continue to fold in prayer.

These hands are the mark of where I've been and the

    ruggedness of my life.

But more importantly it will be these hands that God will

reach out and take when he leads me home.

And He won't care about where these hands have been or

    what they have done.

What He will care about is to whom these hands belong

    and how much

    He loves these hands.

And with these hands, He will lift me to His side and

there I will use these hands to touch the face of Christ.

I never saw the man again.

I do know that I'll never take my hands for granted or

look at them in the same way again.

  19. Well they are looking very much like nana's hands, so that tells me I'm getting old.

  20. There starting to look pretty old...Arthritis taking hold and fingers are beginning to turn. I have worked hard all my life and and only in later years started wearing gloves.

And mostly they look like my dear mothers.......

  21. Honestly, my hands are my best physical feature.  I had a high school teacher who suggested I become a hand model. Wish I had pursued that.

  22. Hard worker.

  23. They talk about me when they are behind my back. They're stupid though since the right one never knows what the left is doing.

Actually my hands are about the oldest looking thing on me. I make knives and work manually on a lot of things and rarely wear gloves for anything but warmth so I have about 25 stitches to both hands and they are wrinkly for my age.

  24. On my right hand I have scars from a dog bit a couple of months ago and it is still swollen to this day. I have other scars on both hands from working in the garden, jobs that I have worked and other things as well. I have callouses on the inside of both of my hands. My hands are not soft as if I did nothing. My hands say that I do work and I work very hard. I am not in the least bit afraid of getting a finger nail broke. They might get a little long, but never get in my way of anything that I do. I have heard folks around me (mostly guys) when I am doing something and they say watch out so that you don't break a nail. My responds to that is, oh well, if I break a nail, I break a nail, it will grow back.

  25. My hands are small and my nails are short. They are the hands of a mom, grandma and daughter. These hands are hard working from cooking and peeling potatoes, washing dishes and scrubbing floors, tired from writing bills but yet gentle enough to stroke the face of my 86 year old mother and new born grandchild. My hands are never to tired to lend a helping hand to those in need .
