An increase in the temperature of matter generally results in a decrease in its density. Water is an exception to this rule. What do you think happens to water when it freezes?

thats the actual information i need but the specific question is that..

thanks

  2. Temperature is a measurement of kinetic energy.

It's kinetic energy turns to potential and it is reduced to vibrating and it is unique in the sense that it kind of crystalizes when it turns to ice.

  3. It expands.  It is very unique.

  4. Liquid water has all the molecules sliding easily around and past each other. When the temp reaches the freezing point, they arrange themselves in the crystalline state which takes up more room. So, same mass and more room spells less density. That's why ice is less dense than liquid water, also that ice floats in liquid water.
