what kind of identification or documentation do you need in order to cross the U.S./Mexican border coming from the U.S. to Mexico and also is there something else needed for minors to cross or is it all the same for both adults and minors.

  1. Adult American citizens need a photo I.D. and proof of citizenship...EITHER a passport  OR a birth certificate tocross by LAND.  Minors need a birth certificate.  Any minor not accompanied by both parents must have a letter of permission from the absent parent or parents, signed and notarized.  See 1st site below for the I.D. info and 2nd site for info on MINORS...read section by that name under "Entry Requirements."  To FLY to and from Mexico, everyone must have a passport.

  3. i just came back from mexico last week. You do need a passport or a picture I.D. WITH your birth certificate. They also have a check point about 100 yards from the Mexico border now and they ask for your documents there as well as when you return to the U.S.
