  1. My girlfriend was denied a visitor's visa. She had all her papers filled out correctly. Plus a note from mom and dad, employment, school, invitation letter from my family, and so on. I even had an affidavit of support for her notarized. HOWEVER, she did not even get much of a chance to show her documents. The officer quickly asked her for her bank statement and she couldn't provide it, only my affidavit of support. She was immediately denied within 1 minute of the start of the interview.

  2. There is no hard, fast rule on what you must show or bring to the interview.  All you have to do is satisfy the consular officer that you intend to return home after visiting the United States.  If it looks like you have little going for you or little to return to, your visa will probably be denied.

You do not have to be rich, you do not even have to be employed, but what is bringing you back to your country?  Be prepared to demonstrate whatever that is.

  3. The key to receiving a non-immigrant visa is being able to overcome the presumption that you are an intending immigrant to the United States - you must be able to adequately demonstrate to the Consular officer that you have sufficient ties to your own country, such that the likelihood is greatest that you will return to your home after you have visited the US (strong family ties, professional job, strong ties to the community, home/property ownership, etc.).

  4. ALL B1/B2 applicants are presumed to have the intention of migrating to the US. It is during the visa interview that you have to prove otherwise.

If you don't have a bank balance, how will you finance your trip?

If you don't have a house, why are you spending for a trip instead of using it as a down payment for your home? Is it because you do not plan to return to your country?

If you do not have a tenured job with a high salary, maybe you want to look for one in the US.

They do not care about your emotions. You can cry all you want but they wont issue you a visa if they think you will not come back after the trip.

Finally, if you come from a country that has a high incidence of people who do not return after the US visit, it will be harder for you to get one without funds.**
