  1. Starting February 1st, 2008 you need a passport to re-enter the US if you are a citizen.

    If you are a resident alien, your green card.

    If you are in the US as a student, professional or have any other visa proving your legal status in US, that is what you show when re-entering.

    If you don't have a passport go get one as north in California as you can, to a post office.  Pay the $100 and you should get it in 2 weeks, even though they are saying 6+ weeks.

    One dinner night at Tijuana's finest restaurants is worth that money.

No, No, NO...passports are NOT yet needed for LAND travel to and from Mexico.  That requirement has no date set yet, but will be sometime between next summer and summer 2009.  See site below and read top half of page carefully to see current info.  You will need your photo I.D. and certified birth certificate.
