I have sent my citizenship certificate to get a passport, but the passport agency is taking a big amount of time and I have to leave on the cruise here in 2 days. Will they let me on the ship if I just show them my SS card and a driver's license, or will they reject? Please try to answer as honest as possible, no general opinions, I have expensive tickets that might be thrown down the drain.

  1. My carnival agent told me my bf won't need a passport.  But he does need an ORIGINAL copy of his birth certificate and drivers license!  I have cruised 11 times.  And know this for a fact.  Come 2008 everyone will need a passport.  But not just yet.  So get on it..and go find your birth certificate!  You can get a copy of it at the hopistal you were born in.

  2. it depends on what islands will you land but most will allow you to have just a birth certificate and proof of ID until January 2008

  3. If you are a citizen  and born in the US you will be able to board the ship with your birth certificate and a valid State issued id card such as a driver's license.

You dont' need your ss card that is not proof you are a citizen.

Call your travel agent and talk to them they can help you get your documents and get the cruise lines to allow you to board

  4. Hope this site will help you.

  5. Only if you have to fly into the Caribbean.

As of this year, you're required to show your passport if you're traveling by AIR between "United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda."  This passport policy will apply towards land and sea next year.

I've been able to come back to the US via cruise quite recently just by showing my driver's license but only after chatting with the custom's official a bit. Another girlfriend of mine used her birth certificate.

Do you hold dual citizenship? Can you use a passport from your other citizenship?

The best and most accurate answer you could possibly get, however, will be through your cruise line. Give them a call, they may say that you can use your social security card and driver's license with the expense of being hassled/questioned by a custom's officer.

    Good luck!
