Today in band we were tuning our instruments and the teacher said to play 1 octave above concert B flat (C). I only know how to play the regular concert B flat. What's the fingering for 1 octave above? Can someone explain what the fingering for that tune up note is?

Thanks.

  1. Typically, when you tune in band class to concert Bb, clarinetists play the C that is within the staff (third space C). The fingering for this is like a low F(below the staff), but with the register key as well (the key that is above the thumb F key(first space F)). Here is a fingering chart for more in depth info on clarinet fingering...

You can print it out and place it in your folder (It will be very helpful later on because it has some alternate fingerings in there you will need). An octave is simply the same note but at a higher pitch, or the distance between two different notes with the same name. If you have started learning scales, you might understand it better as the bottom and the top notes of a scale is an octave.
