  1. a part isnt a unit of measure like a cup or a pint.

  2. This means equal amounts that is 1 part sugar to 1 part water means say 1 cup of sugar and one cup of water: or 1 teaspoon sugar and one teaspoon water. 1 part of flour 3 parts of water would be 1 cup flour to 3 cups water. The size of the measurement will depend on the recipe. I have only use a cup measurement her as an example. it could be a teaspoon, a tablespoon or any other measuring devise. I hope this helps explain it.

  3. A point of comparison to measurement.

One part becomes the standard to which other ingredients are compared and measured.

The measurements are equal each time whether it be mass or volume.

If for example a recipe calls for one part of A  item and two of B another it contains twice as much of B as A.

If no actual measurement is given then you may asign it or just "eyeball" it.

So for the above 1 part A may be 1 cup volume so then ingredient B will be 2 cups.

  4. i just defines the ratio of different ingredients. so 2 parts for every 3 parts would mean you would divide the ingredient into a certain amount, so for easy calculation lets just say 1 cup. so for that recipe you would use 2 cups water for every 3 cups flour, or whatever the ingredient may be.

  5. 1 part equals 4 ozs or in some cases 205 grammes

  6. Recipes written in that manner are written for those recipes that are typically scaled up or down.   For example, a margarita might have 2 parts tequila to one part triple sec and one part lime juice.    If you determine that each part is one ounce then you are making a single margarita.   If you determine that each part is equal to one cup then you are making a pitcher of margaritas.     As long as you keep the ratio the same, the recipe will taste the same when making for 100 as it does when making for 1.

  7. one part is a reference to a ratio.  So, for example, one part water to two parts oil would mean that for every one (insert measurement here) of water, you would add two (insert measurement here) of oil, where the measurement would be teaspoon, tablespoon, cup, etc.
