How does the betting work? Does this mean the small blind is $ 2 and the big blind is $ 4 and you have to bet a minimum of $4 at a time? Can someone explain please?? Thanks.

  1. At a No-Limit hold em game, you have it exactly right, 2-4 would indicate a $2 small blind and $4 big blind.  The minimum bet would be $4.

However, at a Limit hold em game, 2-4 means that small bets are $2 and big bets are $4.  The blinds at a 2-4 limit hold em game would be $1 and $2.  This is because the maximum (and minimum) bet before the flop and on the flop is $2.  After the turn card appears, the bet is increased to $4.

To make it a little clearer, here's an example:

    Limit Hold em, $2-$4

    Small blind posts $1

    Big blind posts $2

    player 1 calls $2

    small blind completes for $1

    Big blind checks.

    flop

    SB bets $2

    BB calls $2

    player 1 folds

    turn

    SB bets $4

    BB raises to $8

    SB cals

    river

    SB bets $4

    BB calls $4

  2. Its the blind amount
