  1. 3 to 9 is the magnification power. 40 means the objective lens is 40mm. typically the bigger the lens the more light it will allow in the scope giving you a sharper image especially at distance as well as allow you to see in lower light conditions. You are probably asking because it is one of the most popular scopes for snipers shooting targets at distance.

You will be much better served with a 1 to 4 power max scope as the target you are shooting are much closer. Do not sacrifice you field of view for something that is overkill. While you are trying to acquire your target with the scope set on 9x you target will eat your lunch. It is also much easier to shoot running targets with. If you are looking for a fancy scope get you a Trijicon or similar ACOG or Holographic scope and have a blast.

  2. SW8 hit the nail on the head. listen to him he has it down.

  3. wow

  4. the "3-9" means the magnification can be adjusted from 3 power to nine power  like a zoom lens on a camera. The "40" is the size in millimeters of the objective lens basically the diameter of the front lens group.   That is a common size for hunting big game with a centerfire rifle.

  5. 3-9x40 is overkill. Your airsoft gun won't shoot far enough or be accurate enough to make use of it. Get a fixed 4x scope.
