  1. "upscales"  means (I think) that the decoder wil transform a conventional signal to the 1080 lines on a high defintion signal by interpolating the (averaging values from the pixels around it to create a bigger picture.

effetivley it means that you can use the freesat box to watch any tv signal with the TV set to HD mode.

it doens't magically make the incoming signal a HD signal, it still carries the same information as the conventional signal, but extra pixels will have been added in to fill out the screen, so rather than seeing a black box surrounding the picture or the box cropping the screen it will attempt to fill the screen

  2. That most likely means that it will take any non-HD video signal(either 480i or 480P), and upscale it to 1080i which is HD. My receiver does the same thing.

  3. I work for a large eletrical retailer and i get asked this question all the time bascally 1080i is interlaced which means that your TV will scan one line of pixels and miss one where as 1080p which is the highes HD you can get which blue ray, PS3 etc runs on and that means pogressive which scans every line of pixels. SKY + HD only runs on 1080i. By the work upscale it means normal DVD's run on 720p or 720i and the DVD player will upgrade the picture quality to 1080i. with the rght cables it has been proven to give you 4x the picture quality then your standard dvds. this all depends on the tv etc. Hope this helps lewis  :~)
