  1. you can leave the train once, then catch the next one etc

  2. A Break in journey is just that. As long as it does not conflict with the conditions of travel then you may get off the train anywhere, however, the journey must be completed that day towards your destination, so you could not say take a break overnight, unless it was part of the conditions of travel.

Also if you are booked onto a train then your ticket is only valid for that train and joining another is not allowed and you would have to pay a standard fare single, again unless permitted by condition of travel.

If in doubt, check with the train gaurd / conductor / manager, ticket office staff, or gateline staff for guidance.

  3. Break of Journey means leaving a railway station except to catch a train at another station or to stay in overnight accommodation where it is not reasonably possible to complete your journey in one day, and then resuming your journey using the same ticket.

Even if break of journey is prohibited, you are usually allowed to end your journey earlier, and start your journey later. Megatrain tickets are a notable exception.

  4. It means that if you get off the train somewhere before your destination, you can get back on during the same day and carry on to wherever you're going.
