What does 'guffaw' mean?

I've been using it as a silly thing to say, but not to sure what context to put it in.

So what really does "Guffaw" mean?

i also use it lol its a big loud funny sounding laugh i say it when ppl tell a joke thats not funny i.e.

It is an instantanious laugh, loud and clear. the sort of laugh you know is genuine. If accompanied by a quick hand over the mouth, as though trying to stop the laugh, it can be be interpretted that the person has made a `bloomer`
