Question:

What does 'inc in last st' mean? It's part of a Patons angled scarf pattern.?

This is how the pattern goes -

Cast on 28 sts.

1st row - (wrong side) - Knit.

2nd row -K2tog, K25, inc in last st.

3rd row - Knit.

  1. It means to increase in the last stich.  In other words, knit that stitch twice.  I'll see if I can find you a link that shows how to do that.

    Here's instructions for increasing a stitch three different ways.  I tried several sites, but most of them require that you sign up and this one didn't require that (because it's a place that makes yarn):

    Oh, but most patterns I've used explain which way you should increase.  I mean, they don't just say to increase a stitch without telling you how you should do that.  But I don't know what your pattern is like, so maybe the one you have doesn't mention that and just assumes you would know the best way.


  2. This scarf increases on the diagonal.  You decrease over the first two stitches (k2tog), but make an increase, usually knit front and back, in the last stitch, which keeps the stitch count constant.  This is what makes the scarf angle to one side.  You may want to mark the beginning of the row with a pin on the front side (even numbered rows) until you have enough length to know which edge you decrease on.
