I just got my first registered horse that i believe i want to show.He is a leopard appaloosa. And im thinking of joining my states appaloosa horse club. But it asks if i am non-pro? What does this term mean, im assuming its non proffessional right? but i just need to know what it is relating to showing horses.. i know a few ppl that have and ill talk to them so they can help guide me through the showing process.. and im not going to do BIG shows.. just local ones.. anyway.. i thought it would be easier and faster if i just posted a question about it, im sure someone on yahoo knows what this term means in relationship to showing horses.. Thank you :)

  1. Normally its referring to the USEF standards. (You can have a Adult Professionals Card or an Adult Armature's Card. You would normally never have a reason to get a Professionals Card unless you planned on showing Grand Prix.) But since this is the Appaloosa circuit they probably just want to know if you are a trainer or have ever won a national title.

You just need to check the non-pro box.

  2. non pro. means for people like you and me, you'd be amiteur or novice. Meaning that you haven't been very famous for training your just average joe

  3. That means your not a professional.

  4. Non-Pro generally means not a professional, you are not being paid to train or show any horse. There is the AOTR status and AAOTR these are Amateur owner to ride and Adult  Amateur owner status some organizations you have to have an Amateur card with the breed registry like Arabians others like reining are considered non-pro.

  5. It means that you are not accepting remuneration for training a horse or for exhibiting a horse for a client...you are an amateur.

Those who train horses for a living and exhibit them for a fee or percentage are pros....

    AQHA protocols.

  6. In Cutting Non-Pro means you do not earn your living training other peoples horses.  This means training in ANY Equine Discipline.  If you are the spouse of a trainer and are not a trainer yourself, you are considered an Non-Pro.  Non-Pro's must show only their own horses, or their children up to age 29 (new rule) may show their horses.  At this time Amateur is a separate classification in Cutting (NCHA), but is essentially the same except the spouse of a trainer cannot hold a Non-Pro Card.
