When you think of a traditional woman, I think of a prim and proper lady, no swearing, no drinking, all about the home, kids and church etc. But what do you think of and why? :-)

  1. Ha, no, my ex wife is traditional, she is a great mum, and she will enjoy a drink, a woman, swears and doesn't go to church.

You feminists are very fond of your stereotypes aren't you?

  2. I think of basically the same thing, except maybe for the "prim and proper" part.

  3. all I think of is primary child rearer

  4. Prim and proper lady: Sure....but not always

No swearing: Not really. I cuss sometimes:)

    No drinking: Nope....I drink sometimes

All about the home: Of course! That is the one place I am most of the time. Why not make it a peaceful haven for your family?

    Kids: Yes.

Church: Yes, but not all are religous.

    -ADDING-

Husband: Totally, he is the one person in this world I have chosen to spend my life with.

I agree with most of what you say:)

  5. Hmm..Traditional differs from culture to culture and from time period to time period.

When I think of traditional in this western civilization, I cannot help but picture the leave it to beaver family or even the Andy Griffith (sp?) family.  But in this time line, I would imagine "Traditional" to be a two parent household with one to three children with open doors to all kinds of opportunity, who go to a middle class school, live in a middle class town, has a family of successful persons...almost the "perfect" life.

  6. Traditional is women working in the home and men working the physical labor jobs. There were bossy women as much as men in the past; no one was perfect in the past either.

What you are stating is considered the 'ideal' spouse and parent, whether it be man or woman. Would you suggest a child-life where the drunken mother(or father) is constantly swearing, never home, and never around the children?

  7. "Tradition is a challenge to innovation."

    -Álvaro Siza Vieira

  8. The most part of my friends are very traditional. They twist their eyes when I say them that I'm willing to be the one who pays for home expenses if my husband want to be a Stay at Home Father.

A traditional woman doesn't want to question what they think is natural, so, in this way anything else is unnatural and is wrong.

  9. Well I consider myself traditional. I accept gender roles as they are, I am an equalist of women but at the same time, I don't believe women should be actively involved in everything as I find it a bit degrading for women to be in activities that men are in & vice versa.

I like domestic activities like cooking & cleaning & I do love & want to have children. I also believe that the wife should not be the head of the household, the husband should be. I am also an Orthodox Christian so yes I think that may have something to do w/ it.

  10. I think "traditional" is one of those cop-out words. When people can't define WHY they do something, they say "because it's traditional."

It's also subjective, since traditions vary from culture to culture.

  11. I don't know what a 'traditional woman' is.  I am aware however, of traditional roles, traditional customs, traditional ideology, etc.

  12. Nothing no more than doing her thing. Her husband needs financial help she's out there doing all that she can to help him out. Just because she works doesn't mean she's a femininst and or she feels the need to help her husband and or earn a few pennies for herself.

I'm traditional and at times I cuss worse than a drunken sailor; very rarely though; I usually find better more intelligent words to use.

I've got more interests than just my house; that's being put into a rut. For instance; I love to write.

Well, I don't drink; don't even touch soft drinks for that matter.

    You have very narrow vision.

  13. A traditional woman is not a prude, she anticipates a future with a male partner, expects to have 2.4 children and possibly a dog.  She is educated but chooses to stay home with her children until they begin school then she will embark on a rewarding career. She drinks socially, smokes outside of her home and  swears when she stubbs her toe. As for church that depends on her religion.  She is trustworthy and dependable.  She is loved at home and respected at work.

  14. I think of close families who eat their meals together, children who are smiling and polite, men who work hard to look after their families and women who dedicate their lives to giving their children the best start in life.

I think of myself, and of the lifestyle I'm happy with (minus the church, lol). If something works, there's no reason to change it.

  15. Things that are carried through inheritance.... Customs
