I am wanting to get my 15 year old son a street legal scooter. Texas law says you can have a moped licence at age 15. I have been searching online and see alot that look great but do not understand the cc thing. Please explain in no mechanical terms. Thanks So Much

  1. Logan's got it...

    displacement

  2. Yep, same as cubic inches in a car just metric. You may want to check out the insurance cost between a 50 and 150.

  3. cubic centimeters

    the bigger the number the larger the size of the engine

    larger = faster

  4. 50 cc is about 3 cubic inches. Frankly there are model airplane engines larger than this. Our safety mad legislators, in order keep us safe actually increase hazards. What will your son do in traffic at 30mph when traffic flow is 35? Do what you have to do but you could buy him a dirt bike and go riding as a family,off road,on weekends, be much safer, have much more fun and thumb your nose at you safety mad legislator in the deal. Yes you would have to ride too...there is nothing wrong with that. Its what father son - daughter should be about.  Be safe, have fun.

  5. it simply means the size of the engine (cubic centermeters) not how powerfull nessasarally.

  6. It's how much air the engine displaces on one cycle. It is the metric system. The bigger the number the bigger the engine.

  7. CC stands for cupic centimeters...it basically means "engine size".  The bigger the CCs, the faster the scooter.

    Some states allow scooters of 50ccs or less to *not* require a license.  These scooters can generally go up to 30 mph, and are good for scooting around town.

    Faster scooters (over 50 ccs) may require a special license (check your state DMV), and are usually faster and bigger.

    It is up to you and your son to determine what sort of power he should have.  They all get great gas mileage

  8. cubic centimeters.

    it is a measurement of the displacement of the engine

  9. CC means how powerful the engine is. The more CC the more powerful the engine is.
