My friend asked me to look this up and I can't find it anywhere, not even on the legal abbreviation site. Does anyone know the meaning of it?

  1. A Temporary Restraining Order, also known as a Temporary Restraining Order, is granted after a judge's review and approval following the application from the person to be protected.  Generally, at the TRO court session the judge will also schedule the "permanent" restraining order hearing so both parties to the issue can come to court and tell each side to the judge.  A TPO/TRO does not go into effect until the other party (the party to be restrained) is served with the order.  Additionally the TPO/TRO is only valid until the "permanent" RO court session.  Each state differs on the "permanent" type of RO, but it usually lasts around seven years.  With any valid RO in place, neither party can contact the other party - even the person who asked for the RO in the first place.  An executed PO/RO is a two way street for both parties involved.

  2. temporary protection order
