Question:

What does Alitalia's business problems mean for travelers?

I need to fly to Albania, and virtually all flights to Albania from my closest airport in the Northeast U.S. have a connection in Italy. Which means Alitalia pretty much has a monopoly on my flights choices. Any ideas what might happen to these flights in light of their dire business situation? I don't want to buy a ticket and be left stranded.

  1. there are others as well:

    Austrian Airlines, via Vienna.

    Malev, via Budapest

    Adria, via Ljubjana

    British Airlines, via London (Gatwick)

Albanian Airlines (different connections in Europe)

    etc...

  2. Luftansa makes its connection through Munich and Vienna into Albania

I looked at flights from logan check if you have service from luftansa

  3. alitalia is messed up but the flights are still there

when you buy a ticket you are in a contract where if the flight - let's say alitalia - doesn't leave that day the airline must provide you an alternative flight. if you're not lucky you might have to sleep - let's say in rome - on their expenses until the next flight is available. in italy there are also albanian airlines flights but probably not every day. while if there is a flight every day it sure is alitalia

    .

if you search well I believe you can get it without alitalia.

maybe delta to italy then albanian airlines. when you buy your ticket specify you don't want to travel on a alitalia aircraft because it happens that you have a delta ticket for an alitalia airplane due to co-sharing in ticket selllings.

usually if the flight number has more than 3 numbers it means that it's not the same company aircraft as of the ticket

ex. -- DL 7610 is not a delta aircraft. just a delta ticket. but this works only on international flights. AZ 644 is an alitalia aircraft and ticket. AZ 7600 is not an alitalia aircraft.

    anyways alitalia stands for:

    Always

    Late

    In

    TakeOff

    Always

    Late

    In

    Arrival

    .... and it's true.

and it's the worst thing that usually happens

unless they lose your luggage.. but you'll probably get it back a day or two later

    good luck
