  2. It has come to mean simple people such as Amish, Mennonites, Bretherns, Dunkards, Pennsylvania Dutch, etc.  But it started out meaning people who baptized later in life not just christened babies.  Many believers think baptism is a necessity to go to heaven.  Catholics Christin or baptize infants.  Anabaptists believed that this wasn't correct and began to baptize older people when they chose to join the "church".  Now the word is mainly used to designate "plain" believers such as the Amish.

  3. The term anabaptist was used to describe and define certain Christians during the Reformation.

These Christians rejected infant baptism, choosing instead believer's baptism.

Since many of them had been baptized in their infancy, they chose to be rebaptized as believing adults.

So their enemies called them anabaptists -- "re-baptizers."
