What does Arsenal have in store for the upcoming season 2010 – 2011? (Part 2)
The last season ended in disappointment for Arsenal F.C which was primarily because Arsene Wenger’s squad failed to deliver once again. This wasn’t due to lack of preparation or lack of skills from the players but it was mainly due to the fact that every other player managed to get injured. There was a point last season when as many as fourteen of Arsenal’s first team players were injured. This injury record saw Arsenal from being title contenders to barely making it into the top four. However, experts strongly believe that this season will be different for the club. Here is a look at the predictions that the experts have made for the team for the coming season.
Robin Van Persie has been an integral part of the Arsenal offence ever since the departure of Thierry Henry. Van Persie is an excellent player who is capable of playing as an all-out striker, a winger along with a supporting striker. He makes tantalizing runs through the opposition defence and can score from almost anywhere because of the fact that he possesses a highly gifted left foot. However the Dutch forwards’ career has been injury ridden as far as anyone can remember. Last season, Van Persie seemed to be well on track to set a new goal scoring record in the English Premier League but his celebrations were cut short when he suffered a career threatening injury during an international friendly. Experts believe that after a disappointing end to his World Cup, Van Persie will be looking to go all out this time around. He might not hold anything back considering he is already twenty seven years old and may soon lose his charm with the ball. Experts also believe that his injuries are something that the club need not worry about because it appears as though his constant injuries over the past have made him much more resilient than people would expect. If that does turn out to be the case, then it would be safe to bet that Van Persie would be on his way to claiming the golden boot in the coming season.
Samir Nasri made his way to the Arsenal squad in 2008. He was only twenty one years old when he made the switch from Marseille in France to Arsenal in England. Even though he was at such a tender age, he was renowned as ‘The New Zidane’. To date, the young player has failed to deliver as per his expectations.
Last season, Nasri managed only six goals and a total of two assists in twenty two games. It was performances such as these by players who were expected to do better, coupled with the terrible form of the goal keepers which lead to Arsenal’s demise last season. Nonetheless, the fact that Nasri is a player gifted with surplus talent is undeniable. He has tremendous pace, amazing footwork and is a perfect fit for any team that plays football today. Nasri is now twenty three years old and has had ample time to develop under Wenger. Even though he only managed six goals last season, he still managed to score one of the best goals of the season. Along with that, he was a major driving force behind the attacks that Arsenal launched. The most notable fact is that he never got injured. There were players like Fabregas and Van Persie getting injured all around him but the French man maintained his fitness and rode any tackle that was thrown towards him. Experts believe that this would be the season when Nasri will break out of his shell and finally manage to live up to his hype.
