What does Arsenal have in store for the upcoming season 2010 – 2011? (part 1)
Last season ended in a disappointment for the North London team, Arsenal F.C. This was because Arsene Wenger’s squad failed to deliver once again. This wasn’t due to lack of preparation or unpolished skills from the players but it was mainly due to the fact that, every other player got injured. There came a point last season when all fourteen of Arsenal’s first team players were injured. Due to the rampant injuries the graph of the team fell down from title contenders to barely making it into the top four. Experts strongly believe that this season will be different for the club. Here is a look at the predictions that the experts have made for the team for the coming season.
Arsene Wenger has always believed that a good offense is the answer to everything. Experts believe that Arsenal squad is the most offensively gifted team Wenger has managed over the years. They possess speed, technique and the ability to create magic out of nothing. With players like Fabregas, Nasri, Van Persie and Arshavin on the squad; it is believed that this season Arsenal would manage to outscore all other teams in the Premier League.
It is no secret that Arsenal’s biggest disappointment last season has been their goal keepers. Manuel Almunia was Wenger’s first choice goal keeper, and he managed to be one of the biggest disappointments the team had ever seen. The Spanish goal keeper was highly criticized throughout the season for his poor and inconsistent performances. Arsenal has been looking around to find a new shot-stopper to take over in between the posts at The Emirates. However, experts strongly believe that the team need not look elsewhere since it possesses in its own ranks, Vito Mannone. Mannone is only 22-years old and has managed to start eight games for Arsenal last season. In those eight appearances he scored to two goals only. That is statistically the best keeper performance that Arsenal has witnessed since the departure of Lehmann. If Mannone continues to perform the way he did last season, then Arsenal could potentially solve out the goal keeping worries without having to spend a major portion of their budget on transfers. A transfer would also directly result in Almunia being dropped from the Arsenal squad.
Theo Walcott has always been marked with football supremacy ever since he managed to make an appearance in the England squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He was only 17-years old back then; he was just five months into his contract with Arsenal. Walcott, however never really made the impact that was expected of him, and always seemed to be lacking in one department or the other. Now Walcott is 21-years old, and has a lot of experience behind him. He has, however still not really made it into the starting line up at The Emirates. According to Experts this could be the year Walcott makes the jump to the starting line up. Walcott possesses the rare ability of having tremendous speed behind his legs. Only a few players are gifted with this remarkable skill. Arsene Wenger knows the importance of such a gift. He has introduced players like Henry to the squad in the past and everyone knows how successful he was over the years at Arsenal. If Walcott manages to have even half that success at the club, then it would seal an instant spot for him in the starting eleven and in the England national team.
