  1. Officially, there is a military tatoo in Brussels. There are also solemn masses in some larger towns (Brussels, Antwerpen, Liege) attended by some members of the monarchy.

There is a large open air party in the Brussels parc, ending with fireworks around midnight.

Also all shops, public offices, economic undertakings are closed, except in tourist areas.

In July, many belgians are already on leave, in Belgium or abroad. Most of those at home take that day as a Sunday.

  2. it turns to something commercial.it s areason to get out.last time there was some military choppers in front of the palace of justice and a tank.

fireweorks at nite. there is a building where you can slip down from a building with a steel cord.

  3. Yes indeed it is it is July 21, anniversary of the date that the first king, Leopold I was sworn in as king of the Belgians---not as king of Belgium.

In the morning there is a special Te Deum Laudamos mass in the Brussels cathedral, which is attended by the whole royal family.

In the afternoon there is a military parade which is observed by the king and the queen in front of the royal palace in the center of Brussels.

In the park in front of the palace there are all sorts of activities, stands with artisans goods, stands with waffles (of course) and in the evening there are "popular dances" (bal populaire) in various squares. There is a huge fireworks over Brussels.

In Flanders: icy silence...at most 3 to 4 national flags on official buildings.
