  1. chessie sea board exchange.

I worked for the C&O untill they merged. I got layed off from the car dept. I was a air man i repiared the air brakes on the cars

  2. IDK...But they are a delivery company...They have the most trains in the nation.lol

  3. The name came about during merger talks between Chessie System, Inc. and Seaboard System Railroad, Inc., commonly called Chessie and Seaboard. The company chairmen said it was important for the new name to include neither of those names due to it being a partnership. Employees were asked for suggestions, most of which consisted of combinations of the initials. At the same time a temporary shorthand name was needed for discussions with the Interstate Commerce Commission. CSC was chosen but belonged to a trucking company in Virginia. CSM (for Chessie-Seaboard Merger) was also taken. The lawyers decided to use CSX, and the name stuck. In the public announcement, it was said that "CSX is singularly appropriate. C can stand for Chessie, S for Seaboard, and X, the multiplication symbol, means that together we are so much more, and T for Transportation." The T had to be added to use CSXT as a reporting mark, since company initials that end in X could only be used by non-railroad railcar owners.

  4. don c is correct ....

  5. CSX is the stockmarket abbr. for CSX Corporation--a transportation company

CSX is the abbr. for Caymen Island Stockmarket

CSX is the abb. for Coimbatore Stock Exchange Limited

CSX is often used in reference to WCXS, a Detroit Radio Station

CSX is also the designation of a Dodge concept car.

    and there are many more.

  6. Now on the lighter side.....

    CSX: Chicken S**t Xpress

    CSX: Crash, Smash, Xplode

Chessie system was the kind of merger of 3 RR's. WM, BO and CO.

The C&O was the heathiest of all three, but when CR got their act together and became a force, and NW/SOU merged

to create NS, Chessie was forced to go look for company and found it in the form of Seaboad Systems (LN, SCL and CRR)

    And CSXT was born.

  7. don c has it correct as i know it, and yes that chessie paint scheme was pretty compared to todays.

  8. The Chessie was the descendent of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad which was renamed to the Chesapeake and Ohio Raild - hence the name Chessie.

  9. Indeed, Don C has it pretty much correct and like the above poster stated it also has acquired other, not so wanted, meanings behind its initials.

  10. I think this is an abreviation for Chessie System Express. I know that CSX, did derive from the Chessie System, which came out of the old Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad.
