This question is not as easy as it seems

Try researching ".Com". Your not going to get nowhere. Google will try to correct you, and wikipedia gives you a giant list of articles- having nothing to do with the definition of .Com.

  1. .COM = commercial

    .NET = network

    .ORG = organization

    in the beginning, the top level domains were meant as such. business were supposed to use .COM, your ISP and network providers were supposed to use .NET and free charitable organizations were supposed to use .ORG.  but .COM became much more popular than the rest and a standard and is now valued most out of the rest of the top level domain extensions.

  2. I agree with the first answer.  I was told many years ago that the ".com" extension was an abbreviation for "commercial". Meaning "as in business".  In the beginning, as now, they are used to make money.

    Just as ".info" is an abbreviation for "information" ... ".biz" for "business" ... Etc.

  3. .com is for commercial

    .org is for non-profit charitable

  4. .com" is the most common and most recognized domain suffix. It stands for "commercial" and is used by mostly commercial websites. However, anyone who wants to register a domain name can register a name ending in .com, whether their site is going to be used for commercial purposes or not.

    While .com is the most common of all domain suffixes, .net and .org are also popular. ".net" stands for "network," while ".org" stands for "organization." Again, these domains can be registered by anyone regardless of their intended use. 5. COMpletely awesome! Kidding, its a domain name. You need to buy it (buy the word .com?) if you want it as your domain for your website.

    Real explanation: .com stands for commercial, meaning for your business. Example, comcast.net and comcast.com. different domain, same address. type in pbskids.com, it directs you to pbskids.org.(that was the only site I could think of at the moment that had .org, i think its a good site, my little sister plays on it, okay, totally off topic.)
