  1. Their DC-10 took off just before the ill fated Concorde. On the trailing edge of one of the wings was a repair patch. The repair came loose and detatched itself from the aircraft. This piece of debris came up off the runway in Paris and cut the tire on the Concorde. The tire seperated and caused damage to the underside of the wing and subsequently caused a fuel leak. Then a fire.

The engineer who originally fitted the repair patch and one of their senior engineering managers are in the frame for manslaughter. Allegedly the wrong material was used for the repair and the whole repair is being questioned regarding its validity!

As an engineer working on aircraft everything is documented and all those records are kept until long after the aircraft is scrapped. For engineers they carry the responsibility of their work and the aircraft for as long as it is still in service. Pilots carry the responsibility of the aircraft for the length of the particular flight! Which one do you think gets paid more?
