  1. End of Train!!

  2. Yup to the above, it is indeed the End of Train device, actually there are two on a train, the HEOT or head of train device and REOT or Rear of Train Device.

You need both, frequently the HEOT is built into the radio but not always.

We commonly refer to the Rear of Train Device as FRED which is an acronym for Flashing Rear End Device if they work and a similar term if they dont work.

Over the years they have evolved from a simple flashing red light to a radio telemetry device that tells the engineer if it's warning light is operating, if the rear of the train is stopped or moving, the direction it is moving, the air brake pressure and gives us the ability to initiate an emergency brake application from the rear of the train.

All of the above in a perfect world which rarely exists but that is the design anyway.

  3. EOT stands for "End of train."  Generally refers to an EOT Device, which is an electronic box that hangs on the last coupler of the train and connects to the train air brake line.

It contains electronics that report the position of the rear end of the train, as well.  It thereby takes part of the role that used to be done by the rear-end crew in the caboose.

  4. End of train device. It tells us brake pipe air pressure, when we are moving, and has a flashing marker light. We can also put the train in emergency from the headend with a toogle switch.

  5. end of train!

  6. .....hmmm I dunno....I know ETA is estimated time of arrival lol

  7. EOT means "End of train" its the unit or "box" that sits on the knuckle of the last car of a moving train.

  8. E  nd   O f   T rain

  9. Also known as FRED, Flashing Rear End Device, or F--king Rear End Device.
