  1. Emic refers in anthropology to the way in which people within their own culture view themselves, along with other people and the world. Opposite is "etic" which refers to the view of a culture from people not immersed in it.

  2. emic is "of, relating to, or involving analysis of cultural phenomena from the perspective of one who participates in the culture being studied." Meaning, it's someone in a culture looking at their own culture. For example, you looking at your own culture from your own culture's perspective, you understand why we do everything.

As opposed to etic which is "of, relating to, or involving analysis of cultural phenomena from the perspective of one who does not participate in the culture being studied." This means you are looking at another culture that you are not from and looking at that culture in terms of your own views because you are an outsider.
