What does Federer need to do to become number 1 again?

in other words, what does fed need to win and nadal need to lose so fed becomes number 1 again

Eh... He needs to start winning tournaments again for a start but Nadal has improved his game a lot in the last year and if anything he's going to get even better not worse. Even though Federer has been world No 1 for the last few years he's always struggled when playing Nadal but he was so dominant over everyone else on the tour, but with him losing to players this year that he had never lost to before, coupled with Nadal improving his game out of site this year it's hard to see how he's going to get back to top spot. He's a great champion and I wouldn't write him off but I can't see it happening in the near future.

Its more up to Nadal and Federer has to play very well -which he just can't do at the mo. And Nadal cant put a foot wrong. I wouldnt be getting my hopes to high (and Im a Fed fan). Look forward to next yr when he has points to gain and Nadal has points to lose!!

Feds got 1000 points to defend at the US Open, Nadals got about 850 to gain. So thats obviously a terrible situation. Its much more worrying that Djok will outs Fed in the semis and go on to win it - I think he would overtake or come very close to overtaking if he did that (800 points gap at the mo, Djok defending a finals berth but can u remember the 600 points Rafa gained on Fed from the wimby final- and fed made that final). Mainly because of all the points Fed would lose. Nadal won't lose early, he might even win the thing. So no hope there. Federers absolute best shot is if he defends his points at the US, wins Madrid and Paris (where he is defending finals berth) and wins the end of year masters series (850 points up for grabs - no defending).

Federer will havw to turn his form around in a hurry if he wants to remain number 2, or even climb to number 1. Thats assuming Djok will pick his form up and Rafa will keep his going.

Sorry... it kinda sucks don't it.

I think that he needs to win the U.S. Open with Nadal losing very early. Then he needs to have a very good end of the season run winning at least 1 of the Masters Series events plus the year end championships. It's going to be an uphill climb for the old Fed Express.

Successfully defend his US Open title, hope for Nadal to exit early and probably win the Masters in Shanghai too.

Federer is more talented than Nadal and has better technique. but, federer always is nerveous with nadal because Nadal's defense is too good. Federer just need to be patient and relax with nadal.
