What does Forwarding order expired mean?

I sent something through the mail to a current address of a friends. It came back and said "return to sender, forwarding order expired". Now what?

  1. The post office will forward mail for up to a year.  By that time, they figure the person would have told everyone what the new address is.  But the address on the expired sticker is probably still a good one, unless the person moves every year or less.  The only thing is, you need to use another stamp to resend it.

    Oh, you said "current address."  If you're reasonably sure it's current, then the post office screwed up.  It wouldn't be the first time.  Take it to them and tell them to fix it.  They should give you an envelope for postal business that doesn't cost you anything, since it was their mistake.


  2. Means whoever you were mailing to, has moved more than 1 year ago and the post office is not giong to send it to them.
