K, i know what it stands for, but, how do you keep count of it. Lets say it's the first hole. Short par 4. You hit a 250 yard drive off to the right. You then miss your approach shot, but it hit the green. Your 3rd shot lands on the green. Would you count that hole for a GIR (green in regulation)???

Diffrent scenarion

Par 3, your tee shot misses the green, but your 2nd shot goes on the green, do you get a GIR?

Diffrent scenario

Very long par 5, you hit your tee shot out of bounds, then hit again for three of the tee. You slice your drive, but it stays in bounds, you have a pretty good 4 shot, 80 yards away from the green, and your aproach shot lands on the green, close to the pin.

If you could tell me how you get a GIR, ( how would you count one) And what scenario i would of got a GIR, that would help a lot!

  1. It is the ball coming to rest on the green in the regulation number of shots.  So if you hit  your shot and it touches the green, but doesn't come to rest there it is not a GIR.

  2. Very simple answer for GIR. For a GIR on a par 3, your first shot should be on the green. GIR on a par 4, your second shot must be on the green. GIR on a par 5, your third shot must be on the green. For the purpose of statistics if a par 4 is driven in one, that is considered a GIR. The same is true for a par 5 driven in 2.

  3. Just hitting the green does not count. It has to remain on the green when the ball comes to rest for it to count as a GIR.

It simply means that you have two putts left to make par.
