"I have not written a novel for seven years, but I hope to write another fairly soon. It is bound to be a failure, every book is a failure, but I know with some clarity what kind of boos I want to write"

How will you interpret this?

Thanks

  1. Orwell was a very particular, fastidious writer. In this quote he is saying that he feels he hasn't fully expressed his idea as eloquently as possible in the finished book. In other words he is never satisfied and wants to keep rewriting every book until it is perfect. But he always knows what the idea he wants to express is and how he wants to express it.

  2. He's saying that he writes for himself and not for critics, anticipating that critics might not like what he has written and what he is going to write in the future.

  3. he loses every time he writes a book. he wants to choose carefully what kinds of books he wants to write.

  4. There will always be someone who is going to criticize his novels. He can not control how the critics critique his novels, but he can control what they critique.
